    Chairman

     

    Mr. Ashwini Kakkar is the Chairman of the Ambit Board of Directors. He has been on the Ambit board since 2005 and was appointed Chairman, Ambit Board of Directors in April 2013.

    Mr. Kakkar has worked in many prestigious organisations including Otis Elevator Co, Philips India Ltd., International General Electric India Ltd and subsequently Thomas Cook India Ltd. At Thomas Cook, he was not only managing the Indian Company, but also handling operations in the region from Singapore to Egypt and was inducted as a Director on their worldwide Board. In 2006-07, he turned entrepreneur and is now involved in Mercury Travels Ltd., Mercury Himalayan Exploration, Via.Com, Explore Broadcasting Ltd. and Akshay Software Pvt. Ltd.

    A distinguished member of the Institute of Directors, London, Mr. Kakkar was knighted by the French Government in 2007 with the ‘Chevalier De L’Ordre Merite’ (equivalent of the Padma Vibhushan in India).

    Rama Bijapurkar serves on the Board of Ambit, as Independent Director. A dominant voice in the Indian media on business and policy issues, she is a recognized thought leader on business-market strategy and on India’s consumer economy.

    Rama has previously worked with McKinsey and Company, Marg (now AC Nielsen) and Hindustan Lever Ltd. (now Hindustan Unilever Ltd.). She has her own consulting practice which she describes as “bringing market focus to business strategy” and works across a range of sectors and types of organisations.

    Dr. Y.S.P. Thorat serves on the Board of Ambit, as Independent Director. Lauded for his contribution to the field of microfinance, he has also been on the Governing Board of several educational institutions.

    Dr. Thorat started his career in the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in 1972. While at RBI, he was also appointed as Principal at Bankers Training College (Mumbai), Regional Director for New Delhi, Maharashtra and Goa, and Chief of Rural Planning and Credit Department of RBI. He was also the Dean of School of Liberal Education, at the Foundation for Liberal and Management Education, ‘FLAME’, Pune.

    Naveen Kshatriya serves on the Board of Ambit, as Independent Director. He has a proven track record of delivering extraordinary growth in the businesses he has led.

    Naveen has previously worked in top management level positions at Castrol India, Unilever Arabia and BP plc. He has over 4 decades of international experience with Unilever and BP-Castrol, having worked in the UK, Middle East and Far East. He has practiced Marketing and Customer Management through most of his early 23 years with Hindustan Unilever and Unilever International. While at BP-Castrol, he was on the global leadership team of BP-Castrol lubricants for 7 years.

    A distinguished member of the Institute of Directors, London, Mr. Kakkar was knighted by the French Government in 2007 with the 'Chevalier De L’Ordre Merite' (equivalent of the Padma Vibhushan in India).

    Pradip Shah

    Director

     

    Pradip Shah is Independent Director on the Board of Ambit. He has previously assisted in founding Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), India's first retail housing finance company. He also helped establish the Indocean Fund, a pioneer foreign India-dedicated private equity fund, in association with affiliates of Chase Capital Partners and Soros Fund Management. Apart from that, he has co-founded the AMP - IndAsia India Fund in association with AMP. In April 1998, he started IndAsia, a corporate finance and investment advisory business.

    Pradip has also been associated with several non-profit organisations as Trustee/Governing Council Member.

    Bernard is the Managing Director and Head, Legal & Sharia Affairs/Company Secretary, at QInvest LLC.

    He has more than 20 years of extensive experience in financial legal systems and garnered from legal, regulatory exposure and an academic teaching career in financial, fiscal and contract law in leading universities of Lebanon. Bernard was responsible for drafting the Islamic Finance Regulatory framework in the Republic of Lebanon, legislative prepositions to payment systems such as credit cards debit cards, settlements, clearing E-checks, E-money and netting among others.

    His different job roles and responsibilities gained him a rare experience in both regulatory and legal aspects of banking and financial operations (Islamic and Conventional) operating under Civil and Common law jurisdictions.

    Bernard holds an LLM degree in European law from Lausanne University, Switzerland, and an LLM degree in International Economic Law from Geneva University, Switzerland, a B.A. in Law from the Lebanese University, and a Diploma in English Legal Methods from Cambridge University, England. He is fluent in Arabic, French and English.

    Ashok is responsible for building Ambit into a full-service Investment Bank that it is today. Ambit currently has seven lines of businesses, including its reputed, flagship Corporate Finance business.

    Ashok is regarded as an incisive investment banker and has handled a large gamut of transactions across sectors and geographies. Lauded for his excellence in the field of finance, he is the recipient of several awards, including the Priyadarshini Academy award for outstanding contribution in the field of financial management.

    Rahul Gupta is the Co-Group Chief Executive Officer of Ambit Group and has been with Ambit since 2011. Rahul’s career in financial services spans over 30 years, across all of the major Asian economies, and has a formidable reputation as an Asian financial services expert.

    Prior to returning to India, Rahul was a Member of the Board of Directors, Senior Managing Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Shinsei Bank, Japan. He was the first Indian ever to be appointed to the Board of Directors of a Japanese financial institution. In reporting his departure, The Wall Street Journal, Asia noted that, “without the initiative led by Mr. Gupta to buyback capital at distressed levels, Shinsei Bank could have lost an additional 95 billion yen (over USD 1 billion) in fiscal years 2008 and 2009."

    Rahul has also served as the Managing Director and Group Financial Controller of DBS Bank, Singapore and Chief Controller - Asia at Deutsche Bank AG, Asia Pacific Head Office, Singapore and Chief Controller - India for Deutsche Bank AG, India. He has held senior positions at both, HSBC and Societe Generale, India.

    Saurabh Mukherjea leads the Institutional Equities, Equity Capital Markets and Private Wealth businesses at Ambit.

    Prior to joining Ambit, Saurabh co-founded an equity research firm, Clear Capital, and also successfully built the Equities business for Execution Noble in India, right from its inception. During his tenure at Execution Noble, it was the highest ranked new entrant for Research in the 2009 Asiamoney polls.

    " Voted as the No.1 Strategist in India in 2014, 2015 and 2016 by Asiamoney, Saurabh has played a crucial role in transforming Ambit into one of the most successful brokers in India.     Chief Executive Officer, Private Equity

    Rajeev Agrawal leads the Private Equity business at Ambit Pragma, as Chief Executive Officer, and has been with Ambit since 2007.

    Prior to joining Ambit, Rajeev has been a Partner and Fund Manager at India Value Fund. He has headed the Western region for the telecom business of 3Com, and has been Head of Regional Sales for Wipro, a leading Indian IT Company. He has also worked with BEL, India's largest defence electronics company.

    Rajeev has a vast experience across Private Equity, and Sales and Marketing. Under his stewardship, Ambit Pragma has successfully closed and divested a fund of USD 65 million and is in the process of raising a second fund of USD 155 million.

    Gautam is the Chief Operating Officer. Prior to this he was a Director in the Corporate Finance business at Ambit, where he was responsible for origination and execution of capital market transactions.

    Gautam has been with Ambit since 2001. With over twenty years of corporate finance experience, he specializes in advising clients on the SEBI Takeover Code, SEBI ICDR listing and other capital market regulations.

    Prior to joining Ambit, Gautam was associated with SBI Capital Markets Limited for nine years.

    Gautam holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT, Delhi and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM, Calcutta.

    Managing Director and Head - NBFC

    Vikrant Narang leads the NBFC business at Ambit.

    Prior to joining Ambit, Vikrant has been a Principal at KKR (NBFC). As a Director at Barclays he was responsible for client coverage across large Indian groups, mid-market clients and financial sponsors. He has also worked with ABN Amro as Vice President, Corporate Finance and PWC as Associate, Corporate Finance."

    With over 15+ years of experience in financial services industry, Vikrant has extensive experience across structured credit, acquisition financing, syndicated loans and corporate finance advisory in onshore and offshore markets. He has also been involved in platform level strategy and capital raising initiatives.

    Sunil is an external advisor to the NBFC business at Ambit.

    Sunil has three decades of global experience in the banking industry across investment banking, corporate finance, relationship management, risk management and corporate strategy. Sunil was Chief Risk Officer for RBL till mid-2016 and has also worked with Yes Bank and ING Group at the stage of their rapid growth and transformation and establishment as mainstream players in the Indian Banking industry.

    Sunil is currently an advisor and board member of several companies in the fintech and financial services sector. He is the Chairman of Merisis Advisors, a boutique investment bank and is an Independent Director on the Boards of Varthana Finance, a NBFC which finances affordable private schools; CoinTribe Technologies, a leading FinTech company providing financing solutions for SMEs; Kinara Capital, a NBFC financing MSMEs and Empays Payment Services, a RBI licensed player providing domestic and cross-border payment services. He is a Senior Advisor to Suryoday Small Finance Bank, Insense, and WEH Ventures. Sunil is also a member of the Investment Committee of Infinity Alternative Advisors. He is Charter Member of TiE, Mumbai and a member of the SP Jain Global Management School Fintech Advisory Board.

    Chetas Desai is a Advisor and has been with Ambit since 2007.

    Prior to Ambit, he was an Associate Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He has led several complex transactions, including cross-border transactions involving Indian corporates and leading MNCs operating in India.

    He has previously advised MNCs like OLAM India, Manitowoc Crane Group Inc., Bayer, Novartis and Clariant. Chetas brings his wealth of sectoral expertise while working with companies in the real estate, pharmaceutical, auto ancillary, and FMCG domains. His core strengths lie in strategic analysis, project management and transaction structuring.

    Advisor

    Saif Attar is an Advisor and has been with Ambit Group since December 2005.

    Prior to joining Ambit, he worked with Ernst & Young, as the Group Financial Controller. Previously, he has held positions with KPMG in the Middle East and Banking and Financial Services practice of Arthur Andersen in India. Whilst at Andersen, he moved to Practice Management and also acted as guide to the Finance function of the Andersen practices in South Africa, Israel and parts of the Middle East.

    Saif played an important role in managing the change due to mergers of well-known firms - Andersen with Ernst & Young (2002) and RSM with PricewaterhouseCoopers (2007).
